On May 18, 1980 the "Mountain of Fire" blew its top with the force of over 27,000 atomic bombs. The ash cloud drifted around the world and it dumped ash a distance of a thousand miles away, burying cars and leaving people stranded for days.

The devastation left was awesome and it resulted in a mile plus wide crater, the largest landslide in recorded history. The trees in the blast zone were left prostrate, and all vegetation destroyed. The soil is now sterile.

Rivers of mud buried lakes and rivers, as well as making new ones. The recovery, 24 years later, is amazing and a sight of incredible beauty. This ecotour will set you back to the realities of our smallness and the vast, overwhelming power of nature.

There is a $3.95 processing fee per order. This is a flat fee regardless of the number of tickets or tours purchased on an order.

Cancellation Policy: There are no refunds. All sales are final.

Change Fee Policy: If changes are allowed on a tour or activity, a $20.00 per reservation change fee will be applied for any change to a reservation. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can only be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center.

On this sightseeing excursion, you will have many photo opportunities. We stop at viewpoints and interpretive centers on our way, so be sure to bring your camera.
